A wholesale hosiery order is easier to review when the buyer and supplier use the same written specification. A product name such as “sheer stockings” or “glossy pantyhose” is a starting point, but it does not settle the size range, construction, contents of one selling unit or packing requirements. Before comparing quotations, create a style-by-style record that can also be used for sample approval and receiving checks.
This guide is for boutiques, distributors and private-label buyers preparing a hosiery order. Start with the current wholesale hosiery collection, then confirm the details for each shortlisted reference.
1. Define the garment and the selling unit
Separate the product type from its visual finish. Thigh-high stockings are separate leg pieces; pantyhose connects the legs through an upper section. A glossy, sheer or patterned appearance does not establish fiber composition, thickness or support construction.
Record whether one order unit means a pair, one garment or a set. List every included component. Styling photographs may show shoes, lingerie, straps or a garter belt that are not part of the supplied unit. Confirm the contents in writing before calculating a unit price or creating a retail listing.
2. Write down the construction points that matter
For stockings, specify the top-band style, leg length, toe coverage and any intended attachment method. If a stay-up construction or silicone detail is important, ask the supplier to identify the actual construction and confirm the sample. A wide band alone is not proof of a particular grip material or performance.
For pantyhose, check the waistband, upper section, seams, toe treatment and any designed openings. Keep these observations separate from appearance. Compare the high-shine thigh-high stocking reference with the pearl-shine sheer tights reference as two different specification records, rather than assuming the same fit or construction.
3. Request measurable size and material information
Ask which sizes are available for the exact style and which body measurements the supplier uses for its fit guidance. Where relevant, include height, hip measurement and the intended upper-thigh fit. Record the measurement method and units so the sample can be checked consistently.
Request the stated fiber composition and, if needed for your listing, the denier or other thickness specification. Do not infer these from “silky,” “sheer” or “high-shine.” If information is unavailable, mark it as awaiting confirmation instead of publishing a guessed percentage or universal “one size” claim.
4. Keep a sample approval record
Use a named style reference and sample version. Record the front and back appearance, band or waistband finish, seams, openings, symmetry and visible pulls or defects. Photograph the details under consistent lighting. Note fit feedback against the agreed size reference without turning one fitting into a guarantee for every wearer.
Agree any handling, washing or performance checks before testing, including the method and acceptance criteria. A visual review is useful, but it does not establish a laboratory result or certification. Keep unresolved points open until the supplier responds.
5. Confirm packing and private-label details separately
Specify the number of units per inner pack, how sizes and colors are separated, the product reference shown on labels and the carton quantities you expect. Confirm whether barcodes, care labels, inserts or branded packaging are needed and who supplies or approves the artwork.
For branding work, review the OEM and private-label service. Ask for project-specific minimum quantities, artwork requirements and timing. Approval of a garment sample does not automatically approve the packaging artwork or final labeling.
6. Send a quotation brief the supplier can answer
Copy these fields into your inquiry and use “to be confirmed” for any missing point:
- Product reference and selling unit: …
- Quantity by style, color and size: …
- Construction, fit and material details requiring confirmation: …
- Sample version and open approval points: …
- Labels, packaging and carton requirements: …
- Delivery country and requested dispatch window: …
Ask the quotation to distinguish product cost, packaging or customization charges and shipping terms. Confirm dispatch and transit estimates separately, including when each starts. These details should match the selected products and destination, rather than a general category promise.
Ready to compare a shortlist? Send a wholesale hosiery inquiry with the product links, quantities and specification record. A clear brief gives both sides a practical basis for checking the quote, sample and delivered order.
