Lingerie Target Costs: Choose the Trade-Offs

Before asking a supplier to explore a target cost, rank what must stay, what may change and what must not be substituted without a new decision. This gives the supplier a bounded question to answer. A target figure expresses the buyer’s objective; it does not establish that the same product can be supplied at that figure.

Define the starting version and cost basis

The Wholesale Black Lace Bra and Garter Set, PDD-1008146020759, is described with a bra, high-waist garter belt and matching panty. Use the product link to identify the starting design, then add the specification or sample revision relevant to your request. Do not assume that every catalog detail is already an approved specification.

State the proposed quantity, variant mix, currency and selling unit. Clarify whether the target concerns the garment set alone or includes agreed labeling and packaging. Keep transport and other excluded items visible. Without a consistent basis, a lower figure might describe a different scope.

Make a three-level priority record

  • Must retain: name the requirement and its reference, such as the agreed set contents or a particular measurement specification. Explain which buyer need it serves.
  • Open to proposals: identify the feature that may be reconsidered and the evidence needed to assess an alternative. This invites a proposal, not automatic implementation.
  • No substitution without a new decision: identify changes outside the current discussion, such as removing a garment or changing a confirmed material reference.

Assign an owner to each unresolved priority. If two requirements conflict, resolve that internally or ask for options that expose the conflict. Do not send competing instructions and expect the supplier to choose which requirement matters less.

Request comparable alternatives

As a hypothetical brief, a buyer might retain the three-piece set and agreed garment specification while inviting a different presentation package. Ask whether that option is feasible and request its separate scope. Do not assume that a simpler-looking package costs less or that a supplier offers it.

Where practical, ask for one clearly identified change per option. Keep the original version as the baseline. For each proposal, request the changed reference, included and excluded work, quotation basis, unanswered questions and any swatch, artwork or sample review needed. If several features change together, list them all so the result remains understandable.

Review the proposal before changing the specification

The OEM and private-label development page provides a starting point for discussing requirements. An alternative still needs its own review. A photograph cannot establish fit, handfeel or material performance, and a lower quotation does not approve a design change.

Send your target-cost priorities with the SKU, baseline revision, quantity basis and permitted discussion areas. Ask what is feasible, what evidence is needed and what remains unknown. Record the selected option and approval scope before updating the specification; leave the target unresolved if no acceptable proposal meets it.
